The Idea
Every musician from a beginner to veteran has spent a considerable amount of time practicing with a book on scales, but the concept of scales hasn’t been innovated upon for decades. Composer and educator Curtis Peacock decided it’s time to push the scale. After considerable research and mathematic assistance, he uncovered, quite literally every possible scale.
The Challenge
Despite the promise of possibility in the contents of a new scales reference book, visually, the textbook was very academic. The goal was to create a a light and playful visual language that can serve as a warm invitation to what could be uncovered in the contents of the book.
Re-imagining illustrations created for the original cover, we were able to create a color scheme that felt vibrant and fun. Another key aspect was to create a Reader’s guide that not only served as a visual aid and helper to use along with the book, but also a sneak peak into the sonic possibilities if a student or professional wishes to purchase the book.
